So what is Yin Yoga?

I've mentioned it here a few times, perhaps you'd like to know...

Teacher's Practice?

As a new teacher, finding my way along this path I've chosen and hold so dear, I am challenged with finding my time to practice.

I used to look at my yoga teachers and think, man, they must live in a constant state of bliss--they're doing yoga all the time.

Not so much.

Sure, I practice along with my students but my "practice" is merely movements. I can call the breath but I cannot breathe it myself which is elemental in yoga.

So, this is me, carving out space for yoga. I'm learning bit by bit. Tonight, I moved through a few sun salutations and practiced yin yoga in several hip openers, closing with a brief meditation.

Tonight I was a student again--but in a big way, I suppose I always will be.

Thank goodness...

The Power of Prayer...Hands

It's amazing the calming effect of bringing your hands together in prayer with your thumbs resting on the chest where the heart lies beneath.

It soothes. It instills peace. It allows you, for the moment, to come into the moment.

Try it out.

Come to a comfortable seated position bringing hands together at heart center. Then raise the hands to the forehead resting the thumbs there, "peaceful thoughts". Then lower your prayer hands and rest your thumbs on your mouth, "peaceful words". Lastly, bringing hands to heart center, "peaceful actions".

Walk in peace into your next moment, elevating yourself because you deserve the rise.

Namaste

Yoga Anatomy

I am beginning to read, "Yoga Anatomy" by Leslie Kaminoff and I came across this statement in the first chapter that resonated with me:

"The moment you're born, you're confronted by two forces that were not present in utero: breath and gravity. To thrive, you need to reconcile those forces for as long as you draw breath on this planet"

Yoga= Breath + Movement

That's it man.

More than that are the adjustments made and the balance restored within the body during a yoga practice--our bodies are magnificent and I wonder how many of us have actually met our own.
